Our Activities

Our nurseries offer a wide range of unique activities and extras to enrich every child’s experience at nursery and to support busy parents.
Please contact us to find out about which activities and extras are offered at your local Holyrood Nursery.

Forest Gardens – Our wonderful forest gardens give little ones the chance to explore, take risks, develop independence and self awareness alongside trusted adults. Imagination and creativity are enhanced by the activities that are promoted using natural materials as well as discovering what other creatures share our outdoor areas with us. Forest areas provide a wonderful way for children to witness, first-hand, how the world changes through the seasons.

Nursery Teachers – We are lucky to have our own Nursery Teachers who work closely with our children and their key workers to ensure that children make good progress within all aspects of their development in readiness for school.

Nursery Animals – Taking care of animals provides our children with a great sense of responsibility whilst developing empathy and social skills. Caring for animals can be a very calming and relaxing experience for children as well as an opportunity to assess risk. This provides many vital learning opportunities and skills that supports children’s transition to school and adult life. Children name, feed and care for nursery pets.

Holiday and Out of School Clubs – We keep busy with lots of games, arts and crafts, exercise and play at our Holiday and Out of School clubs. Contact us to find out more.

Soft Play – Perfect for youngsters, our soft play areas allow little ones to explore and play in a safe environment whilst promoting vital aspects of physical development.

Eco Schools – Eco Schools is a the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and is designed to encourage action on sustainable development education issues. Our children love getting involved in their Eco Schools projects and learning about how to help protect the environment.

Baking with Chef – Wherever we can we encourage children to partake in preparing their meals at nursery. We love to see children take pride in their culinary creations and enjoy healthy and delicious food.

CBeebies – We offer regular trips to Cbeebies and participate in Story & Singing Time as well as testing out new programmes and looking around the studio at BBC.

French & Spanish Lessons – Our pre-school children are given the opportunity to explore another language through weekly lessons with our visiting language teachers.

Interactive Smart Board – Our Interactive Smart Boards offer exciting and stimulating learning experiences tailored to challenge and engage little ones.

Graduations – We celebrate the big move to primary school with a special graduation ceremony each year—caps, gowns, the works!

Christmas Shows – We celebrate Christmas by putting on a wonderful Christmas show for friends and family each year. There’s always much excitement in preparing for the show as we learn songs and organise our special dress ups.

Delivery Acceptance – We accept your courier deliveries to make things that little bit easier for busy mums and dads.

Sensory Room – Sensory rooms are calm and tranquil spaces that support children’s sensory stimulation through the resources and experiences provided. Sensory stimulation – touch, taste, smell, sight and sound – is vital for young children’s brain development as the experiences children are instinctively seeking help them to make connections that become stronger over time developing their neural pathways. Supporting children’s sensory experiences from birth have a long-lasting impact on the adults they become.

Physical Development Stars – Physical Development Stars is a programme that supports children’s movement for a minimum of three hours per day in line with government guidelines. Our practitioners look at ways everyday routines and activities can be adapted to encourage fine and gross motor physical development in a fun way, limiting the time that children are sitting down. Allowing children to be more active has been proven to have a positive impact on children’s behaviour, sleep patterns, sense of well-being, weight, muscle development, reading and writing skills, amongst many other benefits.

Sign Language – Sign-along’ is a programme that all children can take part in. For deaf children, this helps them to feel included, settled and eases communication with other children and adults. However, the skill of signing from an early age benefits all children as it can ease frustration for children who are not yet talking, support social interaction and communication, as well as develop fine motor skills that support writing later on.

Bi-Lingual Staff – We are lucky to have bi-lingual staff who are able to support children in their first language, or in exploring new languages. This not only helps children settle well into nursery, but also provides opportunity to better understand and celebrate children’s cultures and heritage. We are lucky to have staff who speak Urdu, Punjabi, Mirpuri, Bengali, French, Arabic and Lebanese.

Fundraising Activities – Taking part in fundraising activities helps children to learn about others that are less fortunate than themselves and understand how we can help them. Fundraising events are good fun and are a great way to get children, families and communities together. Some of the fundraisers we have taken part in are sponsored toddles, superhero days, bake sales and garden parties.
